The "Architect of the Reformation" died in 1545 in Altenburg and was laid to rest St. Bartholomäi­kirche. His remains are lost. The great importance of both Georg Spalatin's worldly and religious lives live on in Altenburg. A remembrance plaque is found still today in St. Bartholomäikirche for Luther's diplomat, the first Superintendent of Altenburg.
