The construction of the St. Georg Stift and Church Castle began around the year 1400. A collegiate chapter was founded in 1413 in the absence of the Merseburger Bishop. Due to its hillside situation, the Castle Church was built with high front building and substruction which form a balcony. The late-gothic outer design was mainly decided upon in the second half of the 15th century. The inner chapel's color scheme was likewise reconstructed in the 15th century style which makes for an authentic interplay between the late-gothic inner architecture and the outer design.
